12 Best Massage Places in Philadelphia – 2021 Review of the Top Spas

Posted By: Pamela Toy

A lot of our clients ask how they can recover more quickly from their sessions. In addition to eating healthy, we always tell them to try out massage therapy.

At our Pilates Studio, we have dealt with plenty of clients who have had lower back pain or tightness.

Massage therapy can be really helpful for alleviating pain and overall muscle tightness. Not only is it important for recovery, but it can also help to reduce stress.

We decided to review the best places to get a massage in the Philadelphia area.

In order to avoid any bias in our review, we utilized different data metrics to score the best massage spas/parlors.

We used the following metrics: Average Google My Business Reviews, Count/Total Google My Business Reviews and Organic Traffic for the entire website (estimated using a tool called Ahrefs).

We then normalize the values in our dataset to be between 0 and 100, then added up the data and re-normalized it. This allowed us to appropriately rank the top 12 massage therapists in Philly.

Then we added up all the scores to generate an overall score and re-normalized the data to determine the rankings for this list.

We have personally used massage therapists in the area, but we didn’t want our review to be biased in any way.

Data Methodology

This data was pulled on 8/24/2021. In our scoring system, we factored in the total amount of Google My Business Reviews, average Google My Business Review, and estimated traffic per website via Ahrefs.

We wanted to get the average Google My Business Review because people will typically leave a review online if they are upset or thrilled with the service.

This can tell us a lot about the quality of service overall. However, if we just factored in the average review that wouldn’t paint the entire picture. Adding the count of reviews gives us an understanding of how popular a business is.

Lastly, we factor in estimated traffic using a tool called Ahrefs. Ahrefs Traffic number is an estimation of how much organic search traffic your target website, subfolder or URL gets each month. (source)

We use organic traffic estimation because this can give us an idea of how much Google/Search Engines like your website’s content. If you have poor/low-quality content Google is unlikely to rank your website high resulting in low traffic.
