Should I Buy A Pilates Reformer?

Pilates Reformers are amazing exercise machines that can change your body and workouts in so many ways. I use my Reformer religiously and have never looked back since jumping into the Pilates world over 12 years ago!

Reformers are well worth the investment and you should buy one if you are a self-motivated individual, have prior experience working on a reformer, and have the space needed.

However, Reformers are very expensive and you should ask yourself the following questions before jumping the gun:

  • Are you a complete beginner to reformer pilates?
  • Are you a self-motivated individual?
  • Do you have the space needed to use your reformer?

Are you a complete beginner to Reformer Pilates?

If you are a complete beginner to reformer pilates, you probably shouldn’t make a purchase right away. I recommend taking a few group classes or privates with a certified instructor before jumping the gun and purchasing a machine.

However, if you are aspiring to become a pilates instructor, then it might make a lot of sense to purchase a reformer. Again, this should come after you have experienced a few classes first!

    Are you a self-motivated individual?

Before pulling out your wallet, you really need to ask yourself if you are a self-motivated individual.

Reformers are pretty expensive and should not be an impulse buy!

Many people during the pandemic bought various exercise machines (like peloton bikes) expecting to use them, but they just ended up collecting dust in their apartments/houses after a few uses.

    Don’t be that person.

You should be self-motivated to work out before spending so much on a reformer. If you are self-motivated and have taken enough classes to use proper form, then I believe it is well worth the investment.

Do you have the space needed for a Reformer?

The next question you need to ask yourself is if you have the space needed for a Reformer. You should have a spare room with plenty of space.

The average reformer ranges from 80 to 100 inches long and 20 to 30 inches wide.

Please take out a tape measurer before jumping the gun and making the purchase! You will be very sorry if you have this amazing workout machine that does not properly fit in your apartment.

Some reformers are foldable, so you can look into that in case you need the space for other things as well.

    Final Verdict

Pilates Reformers are amazing machines that should fit into everyone’s routine. If you have experience working on a reformer, are a self-motivated individual, and have the space and funds to purchase one, then they are well worth it!
